Khaberni - The Director of the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Administration, Brigadier General Omar Al-Quraan, stated on Sunday that the package of decisions approved by the Cabinet to develop transportation services and organize the registration and licensing of vehicles, does not include any change on the licensing fees or mechanism, confirming that the modification is limited to the mode of calculating periods only.
Al-Quraan added, in statements to "Al-Mamlaka" channel, that these decisions allow the licensing administration to grant additional periods to citizens, which contributes to not imposing any additional fees or burdens on them.
He explained that the fee calculation mechanism has not undergone any changes, emphasizing that there are no exemptions from licensing fees or new fees imposed on citizens.
He pointed out that these decisions aim to facilitate the process for citizens who are late in licensing their vehicles, so that upon renewal they receive a license valid for a full year from the renewal date, instead of calculating the remaining period from the previous year with a deduction for months of delay.
He noted that this also facilitates insurance procedures, as citizens can obtain insurance and a license valid for a full year, urging them to renew the license before it expires, as an unlicensed vehicle is considered legally non-compliant.
He confirmed that the laws allow citizens to renew their vehicle licenses 30 days before expiration without any additional costs, indicating that simplifying procedures tends to encourage compliance and prevent delays.
He pointed out the expansion of the circle of vehicles exempt from technical inspection, stating that the new system exempts a vehicle for the first 5 years of its life, up from 3 years, after which it must undergo inspection every two years without an age limit, which facilitates electronic license renewal.
The Cabinet had approved in its session on Sunday modified systems related to developing transportation services and regulating the registration and licensing of vehicles, including a modified system for vehicle registration and licensing, a system for vehicle plates, and a system for driving license fees.
The amended system aims at addressing cases of license expiration without renewal, simplifying procedures by collecting fees based on the actual period, in addition to allowing the renewal of expired vehicle licenses for a full year from the renewal date, a feature applied for the first time.
Moreover, the modification of the vehicle plate system allows citizens to relinquish numbers that carry fees to the licensing administration in exchange for an exemption from them for an unlimited period, instead of just one year as previously practiced.
The system also includes offering new electronic services, among them enabling those wishing to apply for the practical driving exam to book appointment dates in advance.
