Khaberni - The Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Sahar Shakhatreh, said on Tuesday that the school transportation project will begin in August 2026 at the start of the school year.
In her talk for the program "Voice of the Kingdom," she added that the idea of the project is based on the fact that school transport is one of the main pillars supporting the educational process, as it helps to alleviate the financial burdens on families.
Shakhatreh explained that the agreement covers 61 schools and 9,000 students and 900 educational and administrative staff for two years in its first phase, and that the number of buses will be 156, covering areas of the Badia in Karak, Tafilah, Ma'an, and Aqaba, adding that the buses are equipped with applications that allow parents to monitor their children throughout the trip.
She noted that the cost of the first phase is 5 million Dinars over two years, and that the supervisors on the buses will be from among the teachers and will be paid financial incentives.
She clarified that this phase will be experimental and during it, the project will be evaluated continuously to overcome any challenges that may face the project, affirming the government's intent to expand the project after the success of the first phase to include the Central and Northern Badia.
Shakhatreh confirmed that the school transport will remain free in all its stages, pointing out that the company executing the project has successful experiences in the Sultanate of Oman and the Emirates.
She spoke about the job opportunities that the project will provide for the residents of the Badia, as it will create 300 job opportunities at the beginning of the project.
