Khaberni - The Ministry of Justice implemented 316 electronic monitoring cases (electronic bracelet) on individuals who committed misdemeanors in criminal cases, instead of incarceration in correction and rehabilitation centers, according to the Ministry of Justice.
The electronic bracelet is a device worn on the lower part of the ankle by individuals on whom electronic monitoring measures are applied. If it is removed, tampered with, or the person moves beyond the permitted geographical area, a signal is sent to the command and control of the Public Security Directorate to locate him and notify the nearest police patrol to reach him and take necessary actions according to the law.
Regarding the expected benefits of implementing the electronic bracelet instead of custodial penalties, the Ministry of Justice affirmed that the individual remains within the fabric of society, with the possibility of continuing his work or studies, which contributes to reducing the recurrence of criminal behavior and mixing with repeat offenders. This measure also helps reduce the financial cost associated with the penalty of imprisonment and reduces overcrowding in correction and rehabilitation centers.
The Ministry of Justice applies alternative penalties to reduce overcrowding in correction and rehabilitation centers.
