The oldest stadium in the world is abandoned after 154 years

The world's oldest football stadium is about to be abandoned and will have no matches after 154 years.

According to "The Sun" English newspaper, "York Road", the oldest stadium in the world, is threatened with abandonment as Maidenhead United approaches a move to a new stadium.

The stadium, located in Berkshire, has been the permanent home for Maidenhead United since 1871, where the team played its first home game in February of that year.

The English Football Association recognizes the stadium as the oldest major stadium continuously used by the same club, which is commemorated by a blue plaque on one of its walls.

But after more than a century and a half, it seems that this historic journey is nearing its end, as the club - currently competing in the National League South - plans to move to a newly designed stadium in "Braywick Park".

The first attempt in 2023 failed after being rejected by the Windsor and Maidenhead Council, but recent developments have reopened the door.

The proposed new stadium will accommodate about 5,000 spectators, including 1,000 seats, with a hybrid pitch combining natural and artificial grass, in addition to separate changing rooms for men's and women's teams.

Additional meetings with the local council are expected at the beginning of the new year, hoping to file an official planning application.
