Khaberni - American heart surgeon, Jeremy London, has warned against one of the most consumed beverages in the world, describing it as "liquid death" and emphasizing that avoiding it is vital for keeping the heart and body healthy.
London, who is well-known in the field of heart and chest surgery and holds board certifications in general surgery, vascular surgery, and thoracic surgery, stressed the need to completely avoid soft drinks.
In a post on his "Instagram" account, he stated that this type of beverage is something he completely avoids in his daily life as a heart surgeon.
Later, in an interview with the “Today” show, he explained that soft drinks are a "scourge in society" due to their high calorie content, which people consume without realization, especially in the sweetened varieties.
He added that the excessive consumption is not only linked to weight gain but also affects heart and cardiovascular health, and increases the risk of chronic health issues.
In the same post, London revealed a list of behaviors and habits he avoids completely, which include: smoking, alcohol consumption, and eating bread and pasta made from refined flour.
He stated that smoking is "the worst thing a person can do to their body" as it destroys the lungs, causes lung cancer, and increases the risk of heart and vascular diseases, heart attacks, and strokes.
He described alcohol as a toxic substance that affects all body cells, noting that his decision to stop consuming it was one of the most important decisions he has made in his life.
He advised against consuming bread, pasta, and refined flour and wheat, explaining that weight management depends 80% on diet and only 20% on exercise.
In the same context, Dr. William Lee in the “Zoe” podcast said that soft drinks are associated with a number of diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders to heart and vascular diseases and an increased risk of cancer.
He clarified that the problem is not just the sugar, but also includes artificial additives found in these beverages, such as colors, flavors, preservatives, and stabilizers, noting that long-term exposure to these substances can lead to a buildup of negative effects in the body, making their danger greater than many might think.
