Khaberni - The messaging application «WhatsApp», owned by Meta, is testing an innovative feature for Android that allows the display of status updates directly at the top of the chat list, instead of moving to a separate tab.
This feature allows users to follow status updates immediately upon opening the app, with updates from up to three contacts who have published their latest statuses, according to the website WABetaInfo, which specializes in WhatsApp updates.
This addition aims to enhance interaction within the app, as users no longer need to navigate between different tabs to follow status updates. The updates will appear in a dedicated row at the top of the chats, making it easier and faster to follow friends' activities.
WhatsApp is working on developing a new gesture that allows displaying all status updates in horizontal rows when scrolling down, including updates from archived contacts and those with whom the user does not have an active conversation.
This gesture is inspired by the "stories" design in the Instagram app, where content is displayed horizontally at the top of the home page.
The new interface will not display status updates from contacts that the user has muted directly in the top bar.
Instead, these updates will be available in a separate section called "Hidden", giving the user full control over the content they want to follow.
The feature is still in the early testing stages on Android devices, and WhatsApp may make additional changes before launching it widely. Therefore, there is no guarantee that the feature will be released to all users, but it represents a clear direction towards improving the user experience and increasing interaction within the app.
