Meta launches an economy class of smart glasses starting at 299

Khaberni - Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottica announced on Tuesday a new collection of AI-powered smart glasses at economy prices, building on the success of Meta Ray-Ban glasses.

The new Meta Glasses start at $299, making them significantly less expensive than the Ray-Ban Display glasses introduced last year at $800.

Meta, the owner of Facebook, has invested billions of dollars in what it calls "personal intelligence," betting that advanced electronic devices will bring AI benefits to individual users, according to "Reuters".

Although designed in collaboration with "Luxottica," this new collection of glasses is the first that is not associated with any of the company’s famous brands, such as Ray-Ban or Oakley.

The glasses are available in new colors and shapes, including a rectangular design, and a collection of slim oval frames designed in collaboration with reality TV star Kylie Jenner.

These devices are Meta's first AI glasses to be launched equipped with the "Meta AI" assistant, based on the "Muse Spark" model, the first model to emerge from the company's "Super Intelligence Labs."

The success of Meta glasses has prompted other tech companies, such as Google and Apple, to explore developing similar devices.

Last year, worldwide shipments of smart glasses reached 9.6 million units, with Meta accounting for about 76.1% of the total, according to data from the International Data Corporation.

The announcement of the new Meta glasses comes a week after Snap, the owner of the Snapchat app, launched augmented reality glasses priced at $2,195.

However, while Snap glasses display digital content above the real scene viewed by the user in the real world, Meta glasses allow displaying texts and interacting with artificial intelligence.
