Thunderstorm Hits France vs Iraq Match

Khaberni  - The France vs Iraq match, part of the second round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, witnessed exceptional events after the bad weather led to the postponement of the start of the second half of the match being held at the Philadelphia Stadium.

Heavy rain and strong winds started to impact the atmosphere of the match during the last minutes of the first half, before the organizing bodies issued urgent warnings due to a severe thunderstorm approaching the vicinity of the stadium.

Right at the end of the first half, the organizing committee announced an extension of the break between halves to 30 minutes instead of 15, given the difficult weather conditions affecting the region.

Evacuating the Stands to Ensure the Safety of the Spectators

The authorities requested that all spectators leave the stands and head to the safe areas inside and around the stadium, in accordance with the safety procedures adopted in such cases.

The official announcements inside the stadium confirmed that the resumption of the match would remain pending until the end of the thunderstorm threat, with continuous monitoring of the weather conditions.

Spectators await the organizers' decision regarding when the players will return to the field and the second half can continue, in one of the most significant weather-related events of the 2026 World Cup so far.

This was not the first time that weather conditions have disrupted matches in the United States; the last FIFA Club World Cup experienced several delays and match interruptions due to thunderstorms and weather alerts, forcing organizers to implement the same protocols to ensure the safety of players and spectators.

Spectators await the organizers' decision regarding when the second half will resume, amid ongoing weather fluctuations around the Philadelphia Stadium.
