Amman Municipality Begins Applying Discount for Traffic Violations Payments

Khaberni  - The Greater Amman Municipality confirmed on Wednesday the start of the implementation of the Cabinet's decision which grants a 30% discount on the value of traffic violations due before February 17, 2026, for payments made within 60 days.

A source at the municipality said that the specialized teams began reflecting the government-granted discount of 30% of the total value of the violations this morning, provided they are paid within 60 days.

The source clarified that the discount will gradually appear on the violations, assuring that the municipality is keen to expedite the procedures as quickly as possible, allowing citizens to benefit from the decision within the specified deadline.

The Traffic Department Director at the Public Security Directorate, Brigadier General Raed Al-Assaf, said that the Cabinet's decision to offer a discount on traffic fines stems from a commitment to enhance road safety and encourage vehicle owners to renew their vehicle licenses within the legal timeframe.

Al-Assaf explained that renewing the license guarantees that vehicles are subject to technical inspection and ensures their readiness and fitness for road use, which directly contributes to reducing traffic accidents, minimizing injuries and fatalities, and consequently enhancing road safety across the Kingdom.

Additional Discounts Upon Regulation Approval

Regarding the Traffic Safety Enhancement System project and incentive-based motivations for drivers in 2026, the source indicated that as soon as it comes into effect, a violator will be granted a 30% discount on the fine value if paid within 30 days from the date of the violation, and a 20% discount if settled within 90 days.

The Cabinet had endorsed the justifying reasons for the regulation project and referred it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to complete the formal approval procedures.

The project aims to encourage drivers to comply with traffic laws through ongoing incentives and discounts, whether by not committing violations or by paying their fines early, contributing to enhanced road safety and reducing accidents.

Incentives for Non-offenders and Exclusions for Serious Violations

Under the project, a driver who goes a full year without committing any violations is granted a 25% discount on the annual due ownership fee.

The system also excludes serious violations from discounts, due to their severity, including: reckless driving, running red lights, staging traffic accidents, fleeing the scene of an accident, tampering with vehicle license plates, and violations resulting in human death or permanent disability.

The project, according to the source, represents an opportunity to relieve drivers' burdens, reduce the accumulation of fines, and facilitate vehicle licensing procedures within legal timeframes.
