Industry and Trade Increased demand before Ramadan behind price hikes

Khaberni - The Assistant Secretary-General for Provincial Affairs and the Director of the Market Surveillance and Supply Directorate at the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, engineer Aatef Alawnah, confirmed that the increased demand for goods before Ramadan is the main reason for the price increase in the market.

Alawnah stated today, Sunday, that some traders take advantage of the rush to raise prices, although within limited margins, while affirming that price monitoring continues through morning and evening rounds before and during the blessed month of Ramadan.

He clarified that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will not set price ceilings if the prices are not exaggerated, noting that the profit margin is not fixed and is left to the trader.

He added that the prices of food products and oils are stable without any increase, except for certain types of oils that have increased globally.

He explained that poultry prices are affordable for citizens, indicating that the prices of frozen chicken are stable and not on the rise.

He confirmed that some items see a price increase before Ramadan and return to their normal levels during the first week of it, noting that the current price levels are lower than those recorded last year.
