The Occupation Resumption of Leviathan Offshore Gas Field Operations

Khaberni - The Israeli Ministry of Energy said on Thursday that the Leviathan gas field will resume its operations after a month-long stoppage due to the war.

The field, operated by Chevron, has been closed since the United States and Israel launched their attacks on Iran on February 28.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Energy said in a statement "After assessing the situation and reviewing all relevant considerations, it has been decided at this stage to restart the Leviathan platform".
He added "The supply of the local market with natural gas continues, and will now increase with the addition of another platform to the production system".

Leviathan is one of the largest gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean, with recoverable reserves estimated at about 635 billion cubic meters.

In January, Chevron and its partners agreed on plans to significantly expand production at the field.

This expansion will increase gas supplies from the Leviathan field by nine billion cubic meters per year, to about 21 billion, and it is expected that these flows will supply the region and Europe with liquefied natural gas.
