Khaberni - Despite the cold wave that recently swept most parts of the Northern Hemisphere, the Copernicus Climate Change Service from the European Union reported that this past January was the fifth "warmest" January recorded globally.
The average temperature during the month was 95.12 degrees Celsius, which is 51.0 degrees higher than the average recorded between 1991 and 2020. January 2025 still remains the warmest ever, being 28.0 degrees warmer compared to this year.
In Europe, this past January was the coldest since 2010, with an average temperature of minus 34.2 degrees Celsius, which is 63.1 degrees less than the average recorded between 1991 and 2020.
Other regions in the Northern Hemisphere also experienced severe cold, including powerful blizzards hitting the United States at the end of the month.
These cold waves globally coincided with a record heatwave in the Southern Hemisphere, where significant fires broke out in Australia and Chile, and severe floods occurred in South Africa.
