The Iraqi Interior Ministry reported in an official statement via the platform "X" that the kidnapping of the American journalist Shelly Kittelson occurred near Palestine Hotel and Baghdad Hotel on Saadoun Street in central Baghdad.

An immediate security operation was launched based on what the ministry described as "accurate intelligence information," which led to the pursuit of a vehicle believed to belong to the kidnappers. The vehicle overturned during the escape attempt from security forces, enabling the forces to arrest one of the suspects and seize the car used, although Kittelson was not inside the vehicle at the time of the overturn.

In Washington, an official at the US Department of State told "Al-Monitor" that the administration is fully aware of the incident and is coordinating intensively with the Iraqi authorities to ensure her safe release.

Sources within the US administration revealed to the site that officials were previously aware of threats directed at her, where she was officially advised against traveling to Iraq at this time.

This security escalation comes at a sensitive time for the region due to movements led by the Israeli occupation army and US forces in the war on Iran.
