Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Omar Al-Maharmeh, reported that the ministry's crews dealt with 46 major reports and several routine reports related to the weather conditions that affected the kingdom from last Monday until last evening.
Al-Maharmeh added that the nature of the reports focused on high water levels and their accumulation on roads and tunnels, soil erosion, mud slides, and falling rocks, in addition to some signage being blown about, especially on the desert road. He pointed out that the ministry's crews dealt with these issues immediately on field to ensure public safety and the continuity of traffic flow.
He explained that the Capital Works Directorate dealt with high water levels in several sites, notably the Airport Road and the Qastal and Manshia tunnels, as well as water accumulations in Ain Al-Basha and around the Middle East University, where some locations were temporarily closed for precautionary measures until the technical observations were addressed.
He clarified that the Public Works Directorates of Zarqa, Madaba, and Irbid conducted intensive fieldwork to address high water levels, erosion caused by torrential streams, and cleaning of side ditches and culverts, alongside urgent maintenance work during inspection tours, including addressing a pothole on the Hashimiya Road in Zarqa using a cold asphalt mix.
He indicated that the Public Works Directorates of Ramtha, Mafraq, Jerash, and Balqa dealt with various reports involving high water levels and their accumulation in several locations and culverts, while the Ajloun Public Works Directorate recorded no comments during the weather depression. As for the reports from the provinces of Karak, Tafilah, Ma'an, and Aqaba, they mainly involved blown signage and warnings on the desert road, as well as soil and rock erosion, and high water levels in some roads and bridges.
He noted that necessary actions were taken, and treatments are being completed in a number of locations. Additionally, the ministry's crews conducted regular inspection tours around the clock to monitor the condition of roads and culverts within their jurisdiction areas, while supporting municipalities outside the ministry's jurisdiction.
