The majority of Germans support banning social media for those under 16

Khaberni - More than half of Germans support banning social media use for young people under the age of 16, as shown by a poll conducted by the "INSA" institute for the widely-read Bild newspaper.

The survey found that 60% of participants support such a ban, while 24% opposed it, 10% said they do not care, and 6% did not answer or were unsure.

This survey comes at a time when Australia has implemented new rules this week restricting social media use for young people; children and teenagers under the age of 16, starting from December 10 of this year, are no longer allowed to have accounts on many major platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube, X, Reddit, and Twitch.

The controversial legislation was passed in Australia at the end of 2024 and has now come into effect.

To conduct the survey, the public opinion research institute "INSA" interviewed a sample of 1003 people on December 11 and 12 of this year.
