9 killed and 13 injured A Turkish student turns his school into a bloodbath before committing suicide

Khaberni - A student opened fire inside his high school in southeastern Turkey, leaving behind a toll of victims and injured in an incident that occurred in the city of Siverek in Şanlıurfa Province.

The attacker, an eighth-grade student, used weapons belonging to his father, who is a police officer, to begin a random attack inside two classrooms and the vocational school building, resulting in the deaths of 9 people, including 8 children, and injuring 13 others, 6 of whom are in critical condition, before the attacker later committed suicide after being cornered by security forces inside the building.

Security forces and special operations units rushed to the scene immediately after receiving reports, where videos showed dozens of students fleeing the school gate towards the surrounding streets.

Reports indicate that the attacker refused to surrender and held some students hostage before ending his life using a “shotgun,” the same weapon used in the attack.

While ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals, 5 cases involving teachers and students were moved to the capital hospital of the province due to the severity of their injuries.

Despite the security control over the situation, investigations have so far failed to determine the real motives behind this act, especially given the rarity of school shooting incidents in Turkish society.
