Khaberni - Minister of Environment Ayman Sulaiman, on Tuesday, said that the issue of waste disposal is no longer just about throwing cigarette butts from cars, it has extended to some people throwing meals from their vehicles.
He added in his talk on the program "Voice of the Kingdom" that maintaining cleanliness in our society is essential, noting that cleanliness is linked to the religious dimension, and emphasized the importance of places of worship in raising awareness about cleanliness.
Sulaiman reviewed aspects related to the national strategy for cleanliness and reducing waste disposal.
He added that the phenomena occurring after picnicking are also unacceptable in terms of leaving trash, explaining that the responsibility is shared; therefore, there is a two-year program for 2026-2027 linked with several ministries regarding reducing random waste disposal.
He said that this year is the year of cleanliness and the coming year will be the year of sustainability for cleanliness.
He emphasized that tourism generates financial revenues for the country and is linked to the environment and cleanliness.
He discussed the experience of Aqaba in the cleanliness file, which has reached a system of waste collection and transportation.
Regarding violations, he said that the Traffic Law covers random waste disposal, as well as the Framework Law and the Environmental Protection Law.
He said that in the first eight months of last year, about 450 violations were recorded.
He clarified that after enforcing the law, the number of violations related to random waste disposal last year was about 11,000.
