Khaberni - The Ministry of Public Works and Housing continues to monitor the repercussions of the exceptional weather situation that affected the southern provinces and the resulting damages to some of the main roads, particularly the royal road linking the governorates of Tafila and Karak.
According to the Ministry of Public Works, the Wadi Al Hasa area experienced enormous water flows and flood levels greatly exceeding the usual rates, which led to the flooding of the Tannur Dam for the first time in over 15 years. This sudden and significant rise in water levels put immense pressure on the road's sides directly adjacent to the flood course.
The ministry explained that the section that collapsed is located on an old road, established for decades, running along the watercourse.
The ministry acknowledged that it had regularly performed maintenance work on this road to ensure its safety, but the strong recent floods and deep soil erosion led to the collapse of parts of the road structure and its complete disconnection from vehicle traffic. Since the moment the incident occurred, the technical staff and machinery belonging to the Tafila Public Works Directorate began intensive fieldwork to prepare a safe alternative traffic diversion to ensure continuity of movement between the two governorates with emphasis on the need for drivers to exercise utmost caution and adhere to safety guidelines at the site.
The ministry announced that it is about to immediately start conducting a comprehensive and thorough technical and engineering study through a specialized committee to determine the precise reasons for what happened and to devise the best engineering solutions for a radical treatment to ensure the road rehabilitation according to specifications that prevent such collapses in the future. The ministry assures that the emergency teams will remain on high alert until all repair works are completed and the road is returned to its normal condition.
