Khaberni - The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abu Al-Samn, inspected on Saturday the Wadi Shuaib road that connects the city of As-Salt with the Southern Shuna District and the Dead Sea, to assess the extent of the damage and recurring rock and dirt landslides witnessed by the road due to recent weather depressions and heavy rainfall.
During his field tour, the minister listened to the stakeholders about the reasons behind these landslides, which have damaged vital parts of the road and hindered traffic flow, emphasizing that public safety is a top priority for the ministry, especially on this vital road known for its usual traffic density and its steep and narrow sections.
Based on the results of this tour and the recommendations of the technicians, the Public Safety Committee in Balqa Governorate decided to temporarily close Wadi Shuaib road for several weeks starting from the Sayqemahase area (Tomb of Prophet Shuaib) up to the intersection of the Unknown Soldier, covering approximately 13 kilometers.
The closure is for precautionary reasons and aims to fundamentally address the damaged points, including plans to remove all collapsed materials, lighten the loads from the mountain, create engineering terraces, in addition to constructing culverts and lateral protections, using gabion technologies, and placing New Jersey concrete barriers to secure the road.
The ministry urged citizens and vehicle drivers to use approved alternative roads, such as the Aira Al-Karamah road, the As-Salt Al-Ardah Al-Aghwar road, and the Amman Al-Udayssiya Al-Aghwar road, and emphasized the importance for road users to follow official notifications and fully adhere to directional and warning signs, and to avoid using this route during the repair period to ensure their safety and facilitate the tasks of maintenance teams in the field.
