The Egyptian artist Khaled El Nabawy revealed that his portrayal of the character Mahmoud Abdel Zaher in the series «Sunset Oasis» left a deep psychological impact inside him, to the extent that he was overtaken by the character for a long period after filming ended, which made him fear continuing in acting and seriously consider retiring.
The Mamluks saved me
During his appearance on the program «Do you have time with Abela» with the media personality Abela Salama, he said: «After the series Sunset Oasis and amid this confusion, the role of «Sultan Al-Ashraf Tuman Bay», in the series «The Mamluks» came to restore balance to my artistic journey, as this role saved me on a creative level, and gave me a healthy distance between me and the characters I embody, after a harsh psychological drain experience in «Sunset Oasis».
Passionate about directing
Khaled El Nabawy did not hide his long-standing passion for the world of directing, confirming that he has thought more than once about moving behind the camera, and indeed wrote the screenplay for his first movie, but it has not been implemented yet.
He explained that his relationship with the director is primarily based on trust, pointing out his preference to work with a director who has a strong personality, capable of giving the actor peace of mind, because the absence of this trust reflects negatively on the performance, asserting his refusal to work with any director who acts pretentiously or mistreats the actors on set.
The Most Difficult Emigrant
El Nabawy considered his role in the movie «The Emigrant» to be the most difficult and exhausting in his career, noting the amount of effort he put into this work in collaboration with the late international director Youssef Chahine, and confirmed that by nature he loves hard work, and does not feel the taste of rest or even food unless after real exhaustion, because in his opinion, diligence is the key to enjoying life.
