The Zarqa Municipality has decided to end the Autopark system within the city after 20 years of implementation, which was met with popular and commercial welcome in the province.
Zarqa Governor, Firas Abu Qaoud, said on Saturday that 99% of the citizens are dissatisfied with the Autopark system in the province, considering that the decision to end it is the right one, confirming that it is a popular demand, according to Khaberni.
Abu Qaoud added that the Autopark system was suffering from a very significant flaw and was financially burdening the citizens and residents of Zarqa, clarifying that the decision was made based on a recommendation from the Security Council.
Abu Qaoud mentioned that measures and solutions will be taken soon to ease the congestion in the city, through the implementation of realistic solutions that can be easily executed without imposing any financial burdens on the citizens.
About the solutions to be adopted, he explained that traffic police will be deployed more extensively during peak hours, and some streets will be turned into single lanes, in addition to creating new vehicle parking areas at low costs.
For his part, the head of the Zarqa Municipal Committee, Khaled Al-Khamshan, said that the decision was made based on the desires of the citizens in Zarqa, and that the municipality responded to their decision.
Al-Khamshan added that the majority of the residents of Zarqa view ending the Autopark contract and not extending or renewing it as a positive decision.
He mentioned that the municipality aims to regulate traffic within the province and support commercial activity without imposing any additional fees.
Al-Khamshan clarified that the municipality, in cooperation with the Traffic Management, will manage the traffic in Zarqa, confirming that the municipality has set up an alternative plan to manage the traffic without charging any amounts from the citizens.
