Khaberni - A United Nations analysis showed that the massive production of synthetic Captagon in Syria had been dismantled following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime a year ago.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in a report today, Monday, stated that authorities have shut down 15 industrial-scale laboratories and 13 smaller facilities used for storage purposes since December 2024.
However, strong stimulants sold under the name Captagon still dominate the drug market in the Middle East, according to United Nations experts.
Major drug control operations across the region indicate the continued circulation of large quantities of these pills originating from Syria.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, headquartered in Vienna, believes that smaller-scale production is still ongoing in Syria and neighboring countries as well.
The office also warned that consumers in the region are turning to methamphetamine after the dismantling of the Captagon industry in Syria.
