The Largest Increase Since World War II Trump Asks for a 15 Trillion Defense Budget

Khaberni  - The White House announced on Friday the submission of the 2027 budget request to Congress, which includes a defense expenditure of $1.5 trillion, a 42% increase from the current year.

The White House clarified that this represents another “historic” increase in the defense budget, amounting to $445 billion.

In relation to this increase, the budget request included a reduction in non-defense spending by $73 billion, a reduction rate of 10%.

The White House also set the priorities for next year’s budget, which includes "restoring American naval dominance," with the request including funding to build 123 ships to meet the needs of the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security.

This move is the largest annual increase in military spending since the end of World War II and places missile defense programs at the forefront of the administration's priorities, as the budget request includes financing for the program known as "Golden Dome" at an estimated cost of about $185 billion.

This includes F-35 fighter jets and Lockheed Martin warships, as well as Virginia-class submarines built by General Dynamics and Huntington Ingalls Industries.

Last year, Trump had requested a national defense budget of $892.6 billion, before adding approximately $150 billion in supplementary funding, raising the total defense expenditure to more than one trillion dollars for the first time in history.

During his previous election campaign, Trump pledged to balance the budget within five years, but he ended his first term by adding about $7.8 trillion to the public debt, putting his current financial plans under scrutiny from investors and policymakers.
