Meteorology Northern regions register the highest rainfall rate

Khaberni - Raed Al-Khattab, the director of the Meteorological Administration, revealed the rainfall rates during the low-pressure system affecting the kingdom until Wednesday noon, clarifying that the peak impact of the low will be on Thursday.

The highest rainfall rates were recorded in the northern regions, with amounts ranging from 5–10 mm, while the central regions received 2–6 mm, and the southern regions 1–2 mm.

Renewed warnings of thunderstorm risks

Al-Khattab renewed the Meteorological Administration's warnings of thunderstorms, urging citizens to adhere to general safety guidelines such as staying away from open areas like plains and fields, where a person becomes the most vulnerable to lightning strikes, according to the kingdom.

He also warned against seeking shelter under tall trees or near poles and communication towers as they are primary lightning attractors.

He emphasized the need to avoid using electrical appliances and wired phones during thunderstorms due to the possibility of electrical current traveling through the wires.

The Meteorological Administration advised disconnecting electrical devices from the power source to prevent damage from sudden voltage spikes during lightning and to stay away from water bodies such as dams, ponds, and the sea, as water is a strong conductor of electricity.

It also advised stopping outdoor and field activities including sports and camping, avoiding getting close to metal windows and doors, not carrying metal objects like umbrellas, and reporting any fallen power lines and staying away from them.

Warnings concurrent with the low-pressure system's impact

The Meteorological Administration warned of the risk of flash floods in valleys and low areas including the Dead Sea and the Jordan Rift Valley, alongside the possibility of thunderstorms and fog formation over elevations and plains, and dust appearance in desert areas.
