The Jordanian House of Representatives, today Monday, begins discussing the financial committee's report concerning the general budget bill for the fiscal year 2026, amid expected performances from the deputies in front of their electoral bases, during the eighth session of the second ordinary term, chaired by Mazen Al-Qadi and attended by the ministerial team headed by Jaafar Hassan.
The sessions are expected, according to Khaberni, to witness sharp interventions and displays by the deputies in front of their electoral bases, including regional demands and threats not to approve the budget, despite their knowledge that the bill does not allow for an increase in expenses, according to the provisions of the constitution.
After the discussions end, the council begins voting on the general budget chapters sequentially, based on the provisions of paragraph (2) of article (112) of the constitution, and paragraph (b) of article (87) of the internal regulations of the council.
The deputies also vote on the recommendations included in the report of the financial committee, which ended its discussions of the bill after holding 104 meetings from November 25 until December 7, covering during them various ministries and government institutions included in the budget.
Despite some deputies continuously hinting at rejecting the budget, the history of parliamentary life in Jordan has never seen the House of Representatives refuse to pass any budget bill since the establishment of the kingdom.
