Khaberni - Several municipalities have intensified their preparations, raised their readiness, and activated their emergency rooms in preparation for the prevailing weather situation and the atmospheric instability.
The Greater Ajloun Municipality has enhanced its readiness by equipping specialized teams and machinery to monitor sensitive sites and carry out water drainage works and protect roads and properties.
The head of the municipal committee, Engineer Mohammed Bishabsha, told the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) that a main operations room and subsidiary rooms equipped with machinery, equipment, and water suction motors have been formed to receive and address citizens' complaints within the municipal jurisdiction, emphasizing the monitoring of hotspots that have experienced previous floods and preparing specialized teams to open culverts and rainwater drainage covers, and remove any collapses on the roads in cooperation with the relevant local authorities.
The municipality has urged citizens to take precautions and be cautious, to stay away from riverbeds and floods, and it is essential not to connect house gutters to the sewage networks to avoid any flooding, emphasizing that fieldwork continues around the clock to ensure the safety of citizens and the smooth flow of traffic during the weather depression.
On his part, the head of the Northern Mazar Municipality committee, Mehdi Naseer, confirmed the municipality’s readiness and the activation of emergency rooms, saying that the municipality has boosted its preparations by cleaning river channels and waterways, maintaining manholes, grills, and culverts, and organizing cleaning campaigns for valleys and flood channels to ensure no blockages or accumulations of rainwater.
He confirmed the preparation of 15 vehicles to handle any emergency during the weather depression, urging caution and to stay away from riverbeds and low areas, not to connect the house gutters "roof" to the sewage manholes "drains" to avoid their flooding on the roads, not to dispose of waste randomly as it causes the blockage of rainwater drainage lines, in addition to the necessity of inspecting submersible pumps in floors and commercial shops located below street level, urging merchants to take precautionary measures when storing goods in warehouses and settlement floors.
He also mentioned that the emergency room in the municipality receives citizens' comments around the clock in case any emergency occurs and to contact the municipal emergency rooms at the numbers 0772235646 /0799872727.
For its part, the New Berin Municipality announced the opening of an emergency room operating 24/7, where its areas were divided in Central Berin, Al Aalouk, Sarut "Al Kamshah", Um Rummana, and Rujm Al Shouf.
The head of the municipal committee, Ahmed Al-Farahid, explained that this year, the municipality has worked on creating drainage channels in the areas of Al Aalouk, Berin, and Al Kamshah where these areas experience frequent road closures during the winter season due to landslides caused by the accumulation of dirt and silt.
He added that the areas of Al Kamshah, mountains of Al Aalouk, and Rujm Al Shouf experience annual snowfall, while the areas of Wadi Berin, Al Khilla, and Um Rummana experience formation of floods, noting that the municipality has worked on finding solutions to these problems through the creation of culverts and bridges in the riverbed to facilitate the passage of water and prevent its accumulation.
