Khaberni - Kaed Ghaith, the chairperson of the Jerash Camp Improvement Committee, said on Thursday that the funding shortfall for UNRWA reflected in its inability to deliver cash assistance for the last third of this year for nearly 800 families inside the camp.

Ghaith added that each individual used to receive about 22 dinars from UNRWA, but the funding shortfall limited its ability to deliver cash aid to families within the camp.

He explained that royal initiatives and charitable aid have alleviated the situation for families inside the camp, where in-kind and cash assistance are distributed, in addition to implementing several projects such as public parks and scholarships.

Ghaith clarified that UNRWA provides assistance to the health and education sectors and cash assistance to families inside the camp, noting that recently boys' school maintenance was conducted, and a new school for girls was established inside the camp to eliminate the two shifts system at the girls' school.

Ghaith pointed out that since the beginning of this year, about 80 residential units have been established inside the camp with funding from UNICEF and the Qatar Charity Association.

Ghaith noted that a study has been prepared to build enclosed hangars for the waste compressor to enter, unload its cargo in a larger compressor for transporting waste to the Akider landfill, which contributes to the speed of waste collection inside the camp.

Ghaith clarified that Rafiq Kharfan instructed the paving and maintenance of the school street and the construction of a rainwater drainage network measuring 150 meters, noting that LED lighting units were installed to replace approximately 80% of the units with energy-saving ones, and the remaining units will also be switched to LED units.
