Khaberni - Gout and Mediterranean fever patients in Jordan complain of a severe shortage in the availability of the Colchicine medication in pharmacies, despite its importance in alleviating severe symptoms associated with the diseases, such as swelling of limbs and joint pain or recurrent inflammatory attacks.
According to "Khaberni", patients and visitors confirmed that most pharmacies only provide two packages monthly of the medication, which does not exceed two dinars in price, prompting some to search for it in different areas or resort to pharmaceutical alternatives.
While some pharmacists confirm the existence of alternatives to Colchicine, doctors generally recommend using the original medication due to its proven effectiveness and rapid response in patients.
In light of this shortage, patients and their families are questioning the role of the government, represented by the Ministry of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Pharmacists' Syndicate, in ensuring the availability of the medication in the local market, or at least issuing an official clarification that explains the reasons for the disruption and identifies mechanisms for remedy.
Patients affirm that the medication is essential for chronic conditions requiring regular dosing and continuous medical follow-up, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention to provide it to avoid any health complications that may arise from its discontinuation.
