Even if the government borrows MPs demand an increase in public sector salaries in Jordan

Khaberni - Deputy Taysir Abu Arabi confirmed that raising the salaries of public sector employees, workers, and retirees has become an urgent necessity due to the difficult living conditions, noting that the salaries have not witnessed any increase in the last 15 years.

Added Abu Arabi, via Al-Mamlaka channel, that the rise in prices necessitates an increase in salaries in proportion to the economic conditions, stressing that the deputies will not approve the 2026 budget if it does not include this increase if there is an agreement among the parties.

He also called on the government to increase its loans and debt to fund the raise of salaries, pointing out that there is a direction within the "Azim" party to link the approval of the budget to ensuring the increase.

Deputy Ibrahim Al-Qaralleh considered the government's borrowing to increase public sector employees' salaries as merely deferring the crises, and it would not benefit the citizen directly.

He explained that some deputies might reject the budget if it does not include a salary increase, but he indicated that the House of Representatives might pass the budget even if it does not include any increase.

Deputy Rania Abu Rimman noted that increasing the salaries of public sector employees is a demand of all deputies, parties, and blocs, confirming that the salaries have not seen any increase since 2012.

She added that the citizen bears all the responsibilities towards the government from taxes, fees, and fines, and has the right to improved salaries. She pointed out that the salary increase would help the employees and move the economy forward, noting that the union of centrist parties considers this increase a real necessity and not a luxury.
