Khaberni - Jordan has won the membership of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the period 2025 - 2029 in the elections held today during the forty-third session of the General Conference of the organization held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Fouad Al-Majali, confirmed on Friday that the re-election of Jordan to the membership of UNESCO for the third consecutive time since 2017 is a recognition of the Kingdom's constructive role within the organization and its commitment to enhancing international cooperation in humanitarian, scientific, and cultural fields.
Al-Majali noted that Jordan will continue to work with member states to enhance quality education, protect cultural heritage, empower youth and women, and harness science for sustainable development.
He highlighted that Jordan's membership in UNESCO serves as an effective tool to continue its firm stance in defending the Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem; stemming from the Hashemite custodianship over these sanctities, and continuing the Kingdom's steadfast role in preserving the human and spiritual heritage of Jerusalem, and countering attempts to erase its identity or change its historical and legal status.
Al-Majali expressed Jordan's gratitude to the member states that voted for the re-election of the Kingdom to the membership of the UNESCO Executive Board, which reaffirms the international community's confidence and respect for Jordan's moderate policies and its diplomacy based on openness, cooperation, and partnerships with the United Nations and its affiliated organizations.
