UN Refugee Agency Over 474000 refugees and asylum seekers in Jordan

Khaberni - The report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan showed that the number of registered refugees and asylum seekers reached 474,807 people.

According to the recent report from the agency, Syrians make up the largest percentage of the refugees, numbering 436,410 refugees which is 91.9% of the total, followed by Iraqis at 24,529, Yemenis at 8,820, and Sudanese at 4,284; while the number of refugees from Somalia is 324, and from other nationalities 440.

The data showed that the vast majority of refugees reside in urban areas, with 385,960 people constituting 81.3%, compared to 88,847 living in camps which make up 18.7%.

The report indicated that the number of females aged four years and below is 27,467; from (5–11 years) 46,800; from (12–17 years) 36,460; from (18–35 years) 67,052; from (36–59 years) 48,105; while 12,357 women are over the age of 60.

The number of males aged four years and below is 28,551; from (5–11 years) 49,179; from (12–17 years) 38,546; from (18–35 years) 67,179; from (36–59 years) 43,846; while 9,265 men are over the age of 60.

It added that the number of children among the refugees reached 227,003, making up 47.81% of the total, while the number of adults is 226,182, constituting 47.64%, with females numbering 115,157 (24.25%) and males 111,025 (23.38%).

The number of elderly refugees is 21,622, making up 4.6% of the total, including 12,357 women and 9,265 men.

The governorate of Amman tops the list of governorates in terms of refugee numbers, with 170,374; followed by Irbid at 78,783; then Mafraq at 57,638; Zarqa at 29,844; Balqa at 12,741; Madaba at 9,672; Ma'an at 7,258; Karak at 5,888; Jerash at 5,343; Ajloun at 3,461; Aqaba at 3,397; and Tafilah with 1,128, while the other governorates recorded 433 refugees.

In the camps, there are 53,493 refugees in Zaatari, 35,207 in Azraq, while Haditha camp recorded 147 refugees.
