Syrian Foreign Minister We do not seek to pose a threat to any country

Khaberni - The Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shaibani, said on Sunday during the events of the Manama Dialogue Forum that Syria is committed to enhancing civil peace.

Shaibani refuted the new Syrian administration’s vision for the transitional phase according to 3 principles:

* Local, regional, and international security stability.

* Balanced diplomacy, we do not want Syria to be based on the principle of polarization or to side with one party against another, maintaining balance might be difficult and rare in our current reality but we are trying to keep an equal distance from everyone.

* We have been able to establish our state away from sectarian conflict or the principle of majority and minority, we wanted the law to be the impartial scale among everyone regardless of human background, because we are proud of Syria’s cultural and religious diversity, which adds to Syria’s civilizational value and enhances integration among the Syrian people.

He continued: "We faced major challenges during this period, but we did not surrender. We were committed to enhancing civil peace, and establishing justice led to the foundation of a national committee for the missing, with more than 250,000 persons missing at the hands of the defunct regime, and we also established the national committee for transitional justice which we rely on as the dividing line to bring truth to the people and protect our nation."

He added: "We completed the parliamentary elections, there are some challenges but they do not impede this process, we will witness the first parliamentary session elected transparently in Syria participated in by Syrians and monitored by the international community."

Shaibani added: "We have not sealed what we aspire to but rather this is the beginning through which we want to establish the future Syria, to be an active country relying on its people, free from foreign interventions, away from any polarization that does not become a source of any threat or concern."

He concluded by saying: "We extend our hand to friends and allies to be partners in building our country which will reflect positively with benefits and peace for the entire region."
