Infants Murder at the Hands of a Little Girl in a Nursery Shocks Moroccans

Khaberni - In a tragic incident that has shocked the Moroccan public in recent hours, an 8-month-old infant died in a nursery in Tangier, at the hands of a little girl no older than 8 years old, in an event that sparked shock and outrage and opened a discussion about the adherence to safety standards within these institutions.

According to security authorities, one of the workers in the nursery had entrusted the minor girl with the care of the infant, who failed to hold her properly, causing her to fall several times, resulting in severe bruises and internal bleeding on the head, which later led to her death.

In the aftermath of the incident, authorities detained the owner of the nursery and the worker supervising the children, in addition to the parents of the minor girl responsible for the event, while the latter was handed over to her family due to her lack of criminal responsibility.

"Gross Negligence"
The incident caused a wave of anger and harsh criticisms of the nursery's management due to what was considered "gross negligence" in supervising the children, especially after a video recorded by the surveillance camera inside the nursery, which showed that the girl intentionally dropped and abused the infant, amidst calls for stricter monitoring of childhood care institutions and ensuring adherence to safety standards and protection of children within them.

In this context, activist Yasmina Lahmidi asked, "Can it be sensible to entrust a small girl with the care of an infant without supervision?" adding "This is absurd, and everyone responsible for this tragedy must be held accountable and this nursery must be closed," while user Zahid Lokili wrote, "After this incident, I no longer trust any nursery, wondering "How can a family feel secure about their child when they see such painful news?"

Another considered this incident as ringing alarm bells about the absence of strict standards for employing workers in child care, calling for a mandatory comprehensive review of this sector.

The tragic death of the infant inside the Tangier nursery comes at a time when early childhood care institutions are experiencing significant demand from families, despite the criticisms directed at this sector regarding weak monitoring and low safety standards within them.
