Turmoil in Iraq After the Arrest of a Syrian Young Man Due to Photos for AlShar

Khaberni - Over the past few hours, many Syrians have been preoccupied with the news of the arrest of a Syrian young man in Iraq, and his sentencing to death due to "photos and videos found on his phone of Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar and the Free Army", according to reports.

A number of Syrian journalists have published a photo of a document said to be issued by the Criminal Court in Najaf, showing the death sentence of the young man "Majd Sulaiman Ahmed Hassan" on terrorism charges.
While the authenticity of the circulated document has not been verified, the family of the Syrian young man confirmed that he was arrested in March 2025 along with his brother who was later released, while Majd remained detained until his sentencing, according to Syrian media reports.
Official Comment

In turn, Mohammed Al-Ahmad, the Director of Arab Affairs at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained that the ministry is following the case with the Iraqi side.
He confirmed in a tweet on his account on X this Tuesday, that since the publication of this news, "the case is being followed up with the Iraqi government through official channels until the verification of the authenticity of the published document and its follow-up officially".

Meanwhile, as of publishing this news, no official comment has been issued by the Iraqi official authorities.
