Jordan What is the story behind the Red Procession that will pass through the streets of Amman today

Khaberni - The "Red Procession" today roams the streets of the Jordanian capital Amman, reaching the Parliament, where King Abdullah II delivers the throne speech.

The "Red Procession" is considered one of the most prominent celebrations in the kingdom, as it dates back to the early days of the establishment of the Jordanian state and consists of 20 open classic Land Rover vehicles, with 14 vehicles participating in the procession and 6 as reserves, along with 10 motorcycles accompanying it.

The procession includes 71 members of the Royal Guard, wearing the official military uniform adorned with red scarves, and follows a protocol approved by the royal ceremonies, where vehicles are distributed in precise formations during the march.

In its early days, the procession was accompanied by white horses and riders, before these were replaced with motorcycles. The procession is organized for national and official occasions such as independence celebrations, visits of heads of state, the opening of Parliament, and royal wedding and funeral ceremonies.

The adoption of the red color for the vehicles and scarves goes back to the banner of the Hashemites, along with the yellow banner of the Royal Guard that accompanies the procession, making it an emotional and historical symbol deeply rooted in the consciousness of the Jordanians.
