Appeals Court Allows Trump to Deploy National Guard in Portland

Khaberni - An American appeals court, on Monday, permitted President Donald Trump to deploy the National Guard in Portland despite opposition from the Oregon governor.

The appeals court concluded that "it is likely that the President had exercised his legal authority" when he issued a federal order to deploy the National Guard in Portland.

The judicial decision paves the way for the deployment of 200 personnel to protect federal buildings where authorities say protesters are obstructing the enforcement of immigration laws.

Recently, Trump ordered the deployment of the National Guard in Portland and Chicago as part of a campaign to combat illegal immigration, which also saw the deployment of federal units in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and Memphis.

As part of this campaign, military units, including masked and armed personnel using unmarked vehicles and others that are armored, carry out raids targeting residential neighborhoods and businesses, leading to the outbreak of protest demonstrations.
