Success of Cotton Cultivation in Jerash

Khaberni - The Jerash Agriculture Directorate announced today, Monday, the success of an initial research experiment for cotton cultivation at Faisal Agricultural Nursery aimed at studying the suitability of the environmental conditions in the region for this strategic crop.
Dr. Ola Al-Mahasneh, Jerash Agriculture Director, confirmed that the experiment is part of the research efforts being conducted by the Directorate to enhance agricultural innovation and explore new crops that are adaptable to the local climate, noting that the initial results showed a high germination rate and distinctive growth of the plants, reflecting the success of the experiment in its first phase.
She added that Faisal Agricultural Nursery is witnessing the implementation of a number of experiments and modern agricultural technologies, notably the application of volcanic wrapping technology in soilless farming using a closed system, which is an innovative technique that relies on the use of volcanic tuff as a natural growth medium known for its ability to retain moisture and provide optimal aeration for roots, thereby contributing to increased efficiency in the use of water and fertilizers and enhancing agricultural sustainability.
On his part, Engineer Bahjat Swalme, Head of Faisal Agricultural Nursery, said that the cotton cultivation experiment was carried out on small experimental plots with the aim of evaluating agricultural performance and monitoring the growth and production stages, pointing out that the field results showed good adaptation of the plant to local conditions and a positive response to irrigation and fertilization processes.
Swalme explained that the nursery team follows up on the experiment regularly to assess the quality of fibers and production yield, in preparation for making technical recommendations concerning the future expansion of cotton cultivation in suitable areas of the province.
Faisal Agricultural Nursery serves as an advanced research station for implementing modern agricultural practices, where scientific experiments are continuously conducted with the aim of developing sustainable farming methods and enhancing plant production efficiency in Jerash Governorate.
