The Red Cross Suspending Operations in Gaza City

Khaberni - The International Committee of the Red Cross has temporarily halted its operations in Gaza City due to the escalation of Israeli military attacks on the city.

The committee stated in its announcement today, Wednesday, that it was forced to suspend its operations in Gaza City temporarily and relocate its staff "due to the escalating hostilities".

It added that it will continue its efforts to provide support to civilians in Gaza City if conditions permit.

The committee confirmed that it is currently operating from its headquarters in Deir al-Balah in the middle of the sector, and in the city of Rafah to the south, which are still operating at full capacity, according to the statement.

The organization "Doctors Without Borders" also announced a few days ago that it has stopped its medical activities in Gaza City after its clinics were surrounded by Israeli forces, forcing it to suspend its services, despite the huge humanitarian needs.

These steps come while the Israeli army continues its extensive attack on Gaza City since August 11, as part of a military operation named "Gideon's Chariots 2", which included artillery shelling, air raids, demolishing houses using explosive-laden vehicles, alongside ground incursions and forced displacement.

The Israeli army announced today, Wednesday, that it has closed Rashid Coastal Street, the last passageway available for the residents of Gaza to move from its north to its center and south.

The Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened the Palestinians determined to stay in Gaza City, stating that those who remain "will be classified as combatants or supporters of terrorism".

With the closure of Rashid Street, the occupation fully enforces its siege on Gaza City, preventing any supplies from reaching medical institutions or citizens, as part of its effort to evacuate the city.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 66,148 martyrs and 168,716 injuries, most of whom are children and women, and a famine that killed 455 Palestinians including 151 children, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health in the sector.
