King Charles Turns the Anniversary of the Burning of the White House into a Joke in Trumps Presence

Khaberni - King Charles III transformed the memory of the burning of Washington in 1814 from an open wound in American memory into a clever joke, during the formal dinner that brought him together with President Donald Trump at the White House.

King Charles was speaking about the ongoing expansion works in the East Wing of the presidential building, which are designated for constructing a new banquet hall, and he tapped into his sense of humor. He recalled the White House fire set by British forces in 1814, saying: "I regret to say that we British, of course, had our little attempt at redeveloping the White House real estate in 1814."

He jokingly described it as a "modest attempt at improvement and renovation," which sparked a wave of laughter and applause among the audience.
The details of this historical incident date back to August 24, 1814, when British forces led by General Robert Ross entered the capital city of Washington and set fire to the White House, the Congress building, and several government establishments. This event occurred during the Anglo-American war and remains unique in American records, being the only time a foreign force occupied the federal capital. The presidential residence was later rebuilt, with the restoration completed in 1817.

King Charles' current visit holds exceptional significance as it is the first visit by a British monarch to American soil since 2007. It is also regarded in the context of efforts to enhance bilateral relations between London and Washington. No negative reactions were recorded towards the royal joke; instead, the evening was characterized by a friendly atmosphere.

In a striking gesture, the White House released a photo bringing together President Trump and King Charles, accompanied by the caption "Two kings," reflecting the positive climate that dominated the official dinner.
