Merz Tehran is stronger than thought and Washington lacks an exit plan from Iran

Khaberni  - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Monday that the United States apparently lacks a clear strategy to exit the war in Iran.

He warned that "an entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by those called the Revolutionary Guard".

Merz added that the Iranians "negotiate with exceptional skill as it is clear", explaining during a discussion with students in the German city of Marburg that "the Iranians apparently are stronger than was thought, and because Americans seemingly do not have a really convincing strategy in negotiations".

Merz explained that "the problem with such conflicts is that it is not enough just to enter them, but you must also be able to exit them", adding "we have seen this very painfully in Afghanistan over the past 20 years, and we have also seen it in Iraq".

"Iranian Skill"

Merz criticized the United States, saying it entered the war in Iran "without any strategy at all", adding that this makes ending the conflict more difficult, "especially since the Iranians negotiate with great skill, or skillfully abstain from negotiating", and he said "an entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership".

Furthermore, the Chancellor added "the current situation is very complicated", explaining that it is costing them a lot of money, and this conflict, the war against Iran is having direct impacts on Germany's economic performance.

Merz confirmed that Germany remains committed to its offering of using mine sweepers to ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is pivotal for global oil supplies, noting that this is conditional on prior cessation of the fighting.
