The Maritime Authority Reducing Ship Transaction Time and Facilitating Procedures

Khaberni - The president of the Jordanian Maritime Authority, Omar Al-Dabbas, stated that the authority is working on facilitating the procedures for the entry and exit of ships from Jordanian ports, emphasizing a substantial reduction in the time required to complete transactions and procedures, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the transit movement through the ports.

Al-Dabbas added, during a meeting at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce to discuss the reality of transit trade, that the authority deals flexibly with operational processes related to ships and containers, while adhering to the necessary regulatory and technical procedures.

He mentioned that work continues to improve the service environment offered to shipping lines and shipping agents, contributing to a reduction in procedural complexities.

He explained that efforts are ongoing to develop the inspection system and coordinate with the relevant entities, including joint committees, to ensure smooth movement of ships and goods without impacting safety and oversight requirements, which enhances the position of Jordanian ports in the regional trade movement.

Al-Dabbas affirmed that fostering joint work and unifying efforts between related entities form the basis for developing the maritime and logistics work system in the Kingdom, accelerating decision-making and enhancing execution efficiency.

In a related context, the Jordan Chamber of Commerce discussed the reality of transit trade, and the opportunities and challenges under the current regional circumstances, with participation from representatives of the public and private sectors and related entities.

The participants emphasized the importance of enhancing Jordan's position as a regional logistics hub capable of adapting to changes in global trade movement, benefiting from its geographical location, security stability, and infrastructure.

They also stressed the need to develop the transport system and logistical services and simplify customs and administrative procedures, ensuring smooth movement of goods through ports and crossings, and enhancing Jordan's role in transit trade.

The meeting included representatives from the Jordan Customs Department, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the Transport Regulatory Authority, the Jordanian Maritime Authority, the Freight Forwarding and Cargo Transport Companies Syndicate, the Truck Owners Syndicate, the Jordanian Logistics Syndicate, the Free Zones Investors Authority, the Jordan Shipping Association, and the Royal Jordanian Airlines, along with representatives from commercial and service sectors.
