Amman Arab University Holds a CPR and AED Training Course in Collaboration with Zoll Global Company

Khaberni  - In the framework of the ongoing efforts by Amman Arab University to enhance health readiness and spread the culture of first aid, and under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Widyan, president of the university, the Health Center organized in cooperation with the Human Resources Department and the Consulting and Training Center, a specialized training course titled: “Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and usage of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)”, delivered by: Ms. Rozana Al-Ziyoud, the regional director for the Middle East and Africa at Zoll, Dr. Lara Al-Ziyoud, clinical specialist, Dr. Wissam Al-Qatawneh from Heart Protection Company, and Engineer Mohammad Joudah, sales engineer, representing Al-Hadi Foundation for Medical Technology and Informatics, attended by a number of university members from various colleges and administrative units.

The course aimed to equip participants with the basic skills to deal with sudden cardiac arrest cases, which are among the most dangerous emergency situations that require immediate intervention within the first few minutes, as every minute of delay in resuscitation significantly reduces the survival chances. The course also focused on raising the participants' awareness of how to early recognize signs of cardiac and respiratory arrest, and act quickly according to approved procedures until specialized medical teams arrive. The course included a theoretical part that addressed the scientific foundations of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and its stages, along with the principles of first aid in critical situations, explaining the importance of maintaining blood flow and oxygen to the brain and vital organs during the first minutes of the emergency, followed by intensive practical training using simulation dolls and training devices, during which the participants practiced the steps of cardiopulmonary resuscitation comprehensively, in addition to training on the safe and correct use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and learning about its mechanism in analyzing heart rhythms and delivering electrical shocks when needed, thus enhancing their readiness to handle real-life situations with greater confidence and efficiency.

The trainers confirmed that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is one of the most prominent life-saving emergency interventions, due to its crucial role in maintaining blood flow and oxygen to the brain and vital organs during the critical first minutes of heart arrest. This contributes directly to increasing survival chances until specialized medical teams arrive. The importance of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was also emphasized, which is used in reorganizing heartbeats in cases of ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac arrest, noted for its ease of use and reliance on audio and visual guides, enabling non-experts to operate it efficiently and safely, making it a pivotal tool in enhancing response speed within institutions and public places.

The event concluded with affirmations on the significant interaction witnessed during the training, where the practical aspect contributed to enhancing their readiness level and boosting their confidence in responding quickly and effectively to emergency situations, reflecting positively on enhancing the safety system within the university campus.
