Khaberni - The Director of Arab Affairs at the Syrian Foreign Ministry, Mohammad Al-Ahmad, confirmed that the Syrian-Jordanian relations are experiencing a new phase of cooperation and integration, indicating that Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar'a had entrusted Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani with a message regarding the sharing of water with Jordan.
Al-Ahmad stated in a television interview that December 8, 2024, marked a "new page" in Syria's history, referring to its opening up to the world, pointing out that Damascus is now aiming to present a model that fits its historical status by extending bridges of cooperation with various countries.
He explained that the agreement with Jordan focuses on enhancing economic integration between the two countries, covering various sectors, and establishing a relationship based on dealing "as if they are one country," benefiting from the geographical location of both; with Syria representing a gateway towards Turkey and Europe, while Jordan acts as a gateway towards the Red Sea and the Gulf states.
Al-Ahmad pointed out that there are significant opportunities to achieve concrete successes from this integration, especially in the fields of energy, water, and infrastructure, stating that the two sides did not just sign memoranda of understanding, but also reviewed existing operations to develop them.
He also mentioned the review of electrical linkage projects, and the transfer of gas and oil, in addition to a recent transportation agreement signed between Syria, Turkey, and Jordan, confirming that these steps would enhance the position of the two countries at the regional level.
