An Unprecedented Egyptian Achievement A Brain Valve Saves an Infant

Khaberni - In a medical achievement that is the first of its kind in the hospitals of Damietta Governorate in Egypt, a neurosurgery team from the Directorate of Health succeeded in saving an infant who was only 35 days old, after carrying out a precise and complex surgery to install a "peritoneal" brain valve to save his life from congenital defects that were threatening the stability of his health condition.

The story began when the hospital received the infant in a critical condition due to congenital defects that led to the accumulation of fluids in the brain.

Immediately, the specialized medical team was mobilized, which made the bold decision to proceed with the surgical intervention despite the child's young age and the risks of anesthesia at this early stage.

The Damietta Health Directorate clarified in a statement that the operation included precise diagnosis of the child's health condition, determination of the size of the congenital defect and its impact on the surrounding tissue, and the surgical intervention, where an advanced valve was installed to drain the fluids from the brain to the peritoneal cavity, alongside precise handling of tissues of a child who was only 5 weeks old.

After hours of anticipation, the medical team reassured the child's family and followers, confirming that the infant is currently under close observation in the "incubator" unit, enjoys a stable health condition and excellent vital signs, and is responding to treatment in a manner that gives hope for his return home soon.

According to comments from the medical team, this surgery represents not only a medical success but is also a message of confidence in the Egyptian medical staff and the ability of public hospitals to perform the most complex operations that previously required transferring to major specialized centers.

The incident received widespread interaction on social media platforms, where citizens praised the efficiency of the doctors in Damietta, considering the success of this surgery for the first time in the governorate as a "leap" in the quality of health services provided to children and newborns.
