Egyptian doctor sued for 5 million pounds A new development in Haifa Wehbes case

Khaberni - The Cairo Economic Court is getting ready to pronounce judgment in the lawsuit filed by the star Haifa Wehbe against a doctor.

Haifa Wehbe accuses the doctor in her lawsuit of using video clips of her without her consent, in what was described as the illicit commercial exploitation of content protected by intellectual property laws.

The court has set a session on May 18th to decide on the case, after a series of legal procedures that included presenting documents and digital evidence documenting the use of the recorded clips on various social media platforms.

Incident Details
The details of the case date back to April 2023, when Haifa Wehbe visited a medical center to receive a consultation, and during the visit, the artist recorded two short clips in the framework of limited and informal support for the center, without signing any agreement that grants the right to exploit this material for ongoing promotional purposes.

Reposting and Controversy
According to the lawsuit documents, the doctor reposted the videos on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, which was considered by the defense team as an explicit commercial exploitation of artistic content without the owner’s permission.

Legal Action
Haifa Wehbe’s lawyer, Sherif Hafez, took on the case, presenting a collection of evidence that included screenshots from the published videos. He also requested the appointment of an expert in intellectual property to assess the nature of the use and the damages resulting from it, both financially and morally.

Before escalating the matter judicially, Haifa Wehbe tried to resolve the crisis amicably through her business manager, asking for the deletion of the circulated clips. However, these attempts were unsuccessful, prompting her to pursue legal action to protect her artistic rights.

Significant Financial Compensation
The lawsuit demands civil compensation amounting to 5 million Egyptian pounds, based on what her legal team described as double damage, which includes the impact on her artistic image and the use of her name and performance in a promotional context she did not approve of.
