Khaberni - IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva expected on Monday that the Iran war would lead to inflation increases and a slowdown in global growth.
Georgieva said that the Fund would have slightly raised its growth forecasts to 3.3% by 2026 were it not for the war, but now "all roads lead to rising prices and slowing growth."
She added that if the war lasts longer, its impact on inflation and growth will be greater, noting that the Fund has received requests for financial assistance from some countries and might enhance some existing programs.
She explained that the Fund is communicating with the World Food Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization to assess the impact of the war on food security.
She confirmed that there is no food crisis so far, but it could occur if the delivery of fertilizers is affected.
