Khaberni - Alexander Leonov, a prominent designer and a hero of labor in Russia, died on April 5 in Moscow at the age of 75.
For a long time, the deceased headed the "Mashinostroyeniye" science and production association, where he served as the general manager and chief designer. The institution that Leonov led is one of the main entities in the Russian rocket and space industry.
During his professional career, the engineer made a significant contribution to enhancing the country's defense capability. He was honored with the title of Hero of Labor in Russia in recognition of his special contribution to enhancing the country's defense capability.
Brief Biography:
Alexander Leonov was born on February 26, 1952, in the city of Morshansk in Tambov province, Russia. He graduated in 1975 from the Moscow Aviation Institute with a specialization in "Aircraft Vehicles", and joined the Central Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering which is currently known as the "Military Industrial Company (Mashinostroyeniye Science Production Engineering Mechanical Institute in Reutov, Moscow Region. He rose through the ranks from a design engineer to the general manager and chief designer of the institution (since 2007).
Under his leadership and with his direct participation, cruise and ballistic missile complexes, including the "Granit" and "Vulcan" complexes and the self-propelled coastal complex "Bastion" with the "Oniks" missile, were developed and upgraded. He also made a significant contribution to the development of advanced hypersonic systems, including the "Tsirkon" anti-ship cruise missile.
It is worth noting that Alexander Leonov is the author of over 20 inventions and more than 70 scientific papers, a holder of a Doctorate in Technical Sciences, a professor, a member of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences, and the head of the "Aerospace Systems" department at the Bauman State Technical University in Moscow.
For his prominent contribution to enhancing the country's defense capability, he was awarded the title of Hero of Labor in Russia in 2019. He also received the Russian Government Award in Science and Technology, and in 2022, he was honored as an Distinguished Citizen of Moscow Province.
