Senegal bans ministers from traveling abroad to save expenses

Khaberni - Senegalese Prime Minister Usman Sonko announced that his country's authorities have imposed a ban on foreign visits and ministerial travel to avoid waste and save government money, in line with current conditions and rising fuel prices.
The Senegalese newspaper "Le Soleil" quoted the Prime Minister as saying: "I have taken a series of radical measures to reduce all government expenses, including the cancellation of all non-urgent foreign missions due to the country's need to adapt to rising oil prices. No minister from my government will leave the country except for urgent tasks. This measure applies to the entire executive authority."
The Prime Minister of Senegal also mentioned that he has canceled his visits to Spain, Niger, and France.

The Prime Minister noted that the state budget relies on a price of 62 dollars per barrel.

Due to the sharp rise in crude oil prices recently against the backdrop of events in the Middle East, the Senegalese government is facing increasing difficulties in mobilizing financial resources to support the national economy and the living standards of the population.

Sonko emphasized that the austerity policy is necessary under the current circumstances.
