The Engineers Association launches a national campaign to rationalize energy consumption

Khaberni - The Jordan Engineers Association launched a national awareness campaign to rationalize energy consumption, a step aimed at enhancing the efficiency of resource use and protecting energy security, in line with government directives aimed at reducing consumption and improving efficiency in various sectors.

The association emphasized that the campaign comes amidst accelerating challenges the region is facing, and increasing pressures on national resources, making the rationalization of energy consumption a national necessity and a collective responsibility that requires concerted efforts at all levels.

In a related context, this campaign intersects with recent government orientations, where the Prime Minister Dr. Jaffer Hassan issued a directive to rationalize consumption and control spending in government institutions under the current circumstances, clearly indicating a comprehensive national orientation towards enhancing resource management efficiency, which underscores the importance of the campaign launched by the association as a supportive community lever for these measures.

A statement quoted the head of the Jordan Engineers Association, Abdullah Ghosheh, as saying, "Enhancing energy usage efficiency is one of the main pillars of national security, starting from adopting simple daily practices capable of making a significant difference when generalized, which is what the association seeks through this campaign."

He mentioned that the campaign aims to generalize on a national level, ensuring the desired results and enhancing its practical impact across various sectors, through involving institutions, the private sector, and the community in implementing rationalization procedures.

The campaign includes a set of practical measures directed at official and government institutions, notably the commitment to rationalize electricity consumption within buildings, turning off lighting and devices after work hours, adopting energy-saving lighting systems and smart technologies, in addition to performing regular maintenance of air conditioning and heating systems, and rescheduling electrical loads outside peak times.

It also invited enhancing internal surveillance and establishing clear performance indicators to measure consumption, expanding the application of flexible and remote work, alongside rationalizing street and billboard lighting during late night hours, in a way that does not affect public safety.

At the level of the private sector, the association emphasized the necessity of implementing energy efficiency standards in facilities, and using smart lighting systems and sensors, scheduling high-consumption operations outside peak times, and investing in renewable energy, especially solar energy, as well as spreading the culture of rationalization among workers.

Regarding individuals, the campaign focused on adopting daily behaviors that contribute to reducing consumption, such as turning off unused devices, utilizing natural lighting, using energy-saving lighting units, adjusting air conditioning settings, improving home thermal insulation, and rationalizing water consumption due to its direct link with energy consumption.

The association affirmed that the campaign carries a national and strategic dimension, represented in supporting efforts to enhance energy security, reduce reliance on imported energy sources, and alleviate the pressure on the electric grid, contributing to achieving economic and environmental sustainability.

It concluded by affirming that the success of the campaign depends on the awareness and commitment of everyone, calling on various entities, institutions, and citizens to actively participate in implementing rationalization measures, due to the direct impact this has on supporting the national economy and protecting resources for future generations.
