A Single Camera Captures Violations Worth a Million Dinars in 100 Days

Khaberni - MP Moataz Abu Roman criticized the traffic law, describing it as unfair and oppressive, and as an encroachment on the citizens' livelihood amidst the difficult economic situations in Jordan.

Questions about the effectiveness of the law and its impact

Abu Roman added during the legislative session on Monday that official reports have not shown a decrease in the number of violations, despite the authorities' move to increase penalties.

He confirmed that this raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the currently implemented law, as the number of violations continues to rise and the desired goals are not being achieved.

Striking numbers that spark debate

Abu Roman pointed out that one camera recorded violations worth up to a million dinars over three months and ten days, considering that these figures require a comprehensive review of the law enforcement approach.

He emphasized that impounding vehicles for long periods increases the hardship on citizens, especially under the current economic circumstances.

Explicit call to relieve citizens

Abu Roman highlighted that citizens face significant financial challenges that hinder their ability to pay fines, leading to their accumulation and the vehicles not being licensed for periods that could reach up to four years.

He noted his explicit call by saying, "Have mercy on the citizens," demanding a reconsideration of the law's implementation to balance deterrence and consideration of living conditions.
